11/6 - 11/11: It's officially dark...

Well that’s a wrap on summer folks with daylight savings coming into effect on the weekend. It’s always a weird time of year with these nice days and yet it is now getting dark by 530pm.

We know sometimes with the holiday season approaching there’s a lot of pressure. Fitness helps with not only your physical self but also mental. So be sure to keep up your enthusiasm and consistency is the key to achieving your goals no matter when it gets light or dark or what holiday is around the corner!!

Don’t forget we’ll be doing the Chad workout in partner form on Saturday in honour of Vetrans Day so sign up, and get ready for 500 box step ups…

We’ll see you at the gym!!

10/23 - 10/28: Olympic Lift Cycle

It’s exciting to kick off our second week where we have one day focused on Olympic Lifting. We often find these lifts in our WODs but spending time specifically on the lifts and really honing in on technique is going to have major benefits for us all. So dust off your lifting shoes if you have them and looking forward to seeing everyone progress as the cycle continues.

10/9 - 10/14:Are you a Candy Corn fan?

******* It’s the last week of our squat cycle!!!! You’ve been putting in all the hard work now it’s time to see it pay off with a new 1RM. Don’t miss Tuesday’s class to find out!! ******

October brings about a special season…the Spooky Season. Whether or not you are a Halloween fan (we’ve been doing some polling and most people in fact are) one of the most divisive but beloved Question of the Day of all time is: Are you a Candy Corn fan?

Not having being born in the US I couldn’t really understand what all the fuss was about. Then I set about doing some research which involved actually tasting it for the first time, and I’m not going to lie I didn’t hate it. It’s definitely intriguing as it doesn’t taste of corn, could I tell the layers apart? no, was the texture funny? yes, was it too sweet? yes, but by tasting it I couldn’t really understand still why it causes such a rift. I did also tasted a chocolate variation which I liked, but only because the chocolate flavour came out.

9 billion pieces are produced annually so folks out there are eating it. It’s a staple at this time of year and a popular costume too so prepare yourself accordingly for being surrounded by it.

We look forward to hearing your answer to this controversial question this month, maybe you might even be able to change hearts and minds with a passionate answer.

This week sees the American Open Weightlifting meet happening in Pleasanton from 14 - 17 September. With over 800 athletes entered it’s sure to be a great event.

We are lucky enough to have 2 FCCF members competing. Kate Fulghum which coaches our own Barbell club will be lifting in the 4pm session on Thursday 14 September and Ken Lo a seasoned lifting pro will be in the noon session on Friday 15 September. If you have an opportunity to go and support please do so! Meets are a lot of fun to watch and this one especially when the caliber of participants is so high.

We want to wish them both the best of luck as they have been training hard in preparation for this!!!

8/28 - 9/2: R&R...it's real!

I was reminded today about how important rest and relaxation is! As much as we all push ourselves to be better, do the right thing, do ALL the things sometimes it pays to stop for a moment and make sure you do something you love.

We can’t be all perfect, in fact we are not supposed to be. Life can overwhelm us and our lives are acted out by rote. If you feel like you’re stuck or something is off I encourage you to stop. Take time to register how you feel, quiet your inner critic to try to understand what is making you feel like this?

Then take a long, deep breath, acknowledge the feeling and let it go as you breathe out. Turn the narrative around and ask yourself what would make you feel good? Is it getting some sun, taking a walk, spending time with your family? Whatever it is go and do it! If you can’t do it straight away, make a plan and keep it.

We all need those moments of joy, no matter how big or small. By taking the time for yourself and it will relax and recharge you. It will also help bring you back into a positive mind set. These moments to reset are invaluable in our busy lives!!
